Re: Song
Ran the midfield on Saturday. Passing was great, shooting was rank.

Getting a lot of stick for his performance with no foundation at all.

Re: Song
Think he's a real luxury player. Excellent in his day,but an utter liability when he's not. Bristol city away last season was just the most atrocious midfield display.

Not sure whether it's injuries still affecting him or his head isn't right, but without that consistency and reliability he's an expensive gamble

Re: Song
Never seen so many posts criticizing a player who probably had the ball more than anyone yesterday. Must be a reason they keep giving it to him.

Re: Song
disappoints me the more I see him.
has a nice touch at times but consistently gets caught in possession in dangerous positions and doesn't chip in with nearly enough creativity in the last third, as we were led to believe.
no surprise that the bigger clubs don't want to take a chance on him
Overrated

I agree have not seen much from him since the middle of last season (much of the club was pretty bad in that second half)

That being said people who did not see his massive contribution in getting us to 3rd and 4th for almost half a season have very faulty memories.

Where that player has been I have no idea though and anyone who things you should drop Noble instead of him has caught a case of the Fordies.

Re: Song
Uhm i really didn't think he was that bad? Commentators (I know, I know daft cuts) even noted he was playing well.

Pretty sure valencia has to shoulder almost all the blame for that loss. Antonio wasn't great either.

Another lie. You really should stop it. No only is it not nice, but it really is just boring.

Re: Song
His shooting is up there with the worst I have seen. I was one of the few on here who didn't want him back (recall P being another one) a few people looking silly now. 'Utter class' is one comment I seem to recall

Was a thread last season calling Alex Song West Ham's Greatest Player.... quite a few planks agreeing with the OP as well.... mentor was one IIRC... worlds gone mental

Re: Song
I agree with Keep Dreaming. He hasn't convinced me he's worth a permanent deal at the end of the season. We need more pace in that position as Sir Alf has mentioned on numerous occasions.
I can see Song taking it nice and easy if he gets a contract.

He'll be fine just needs to move the ball a bit quicker

Koyuate had an eye infection, but very minor and should be available next match

Re: Song
Not a bad player but bang average.

You must expect a midfielder to be able to pass faster and shoot from distance, and he isnt very good at it.

Should be replaced in the summer

Re: Song
No way was Song that bad, anyone can see how he protects the centre halves and allows his midfield partner's to push on because of his reluctance to play the easy ball back.

The result is that he takes responsibility and deals with the pressure situation himself unlike other midfielders who put that on the defenders, some might see his approach risky and the other one sensible but in reality all that tends to happen with later for us is defenders make mistakes anyway.

Yes there is a time and place for doing certain things on the pitch but Song offers like Payet though in a different way something that allows other players perform better and if we can do without him we must have some seriously good players.

Re: Song
I only saw the first half , and in that he was the worst player on the pitch.

I've been annoyed every time he starts over the last year now and I've started becoming one of those people that wants to see someone fail. He hasn't got enough about him anymore and the quicker Obiang gets exposed to first team action he better we will be in the long run.

What's up with Kouyate anyway?

Stubbo 2:46 Sun Feb 7
Re: Song
He was caught in possession a couple of times, one of which led to the passage of play that saw us concede

But, he broke up a lot of attacks, and never hid from wanting the ball. He was no worse than anyone else really. If Alex Song is our biggest problem then we really aren't in a bad place. Trouble is he set the bat VERY high at the start of last season when he ran about 10 games in a row.

Haha people claiming they didnt want him back now!

Re: Song
It wasn't all Song's fault yesterday. Southampton's defense was very good - almost any team would have struggled to get very much out of them. Also the movement from our forwards was not good enough. But having said that, Song and Noble seemed too happy just to ping it about in midfield rather than take any risks themselves, either in terms of their passing or their own movement into more advanced positions. We only looked like we had any urgency in the last 15 minutes.
